The station is no longer active. The plaque reads: This structure was erected in 1903 to replace the original life saving station built in 1878. It remained an active United States Life-saving/United States Coast Guard Station until decommissioned in January 1969. Subsequently the station was moved approximately 200 yards from its original location by the city of Virginia Beach to be restored and preserved as a memorial to those who served. The structure is a Virginia Historic Landmark recorded on the National Register of Historic Places. Presented by the Virginia beach Arts & Humanities Commission, January 1984.
There are tours given, and there is an admission charge to visit the museum inside.
