This is the third courthouse for Burnet County -- the first log courthouse was burned down by a fire in 1874. The 1875 limestone courthouse that replaced it fell into disrepair, and in the 1930s Burnet County lacked the funds to replace it. So County Commissioners applied for a grant, and got it.
The new WPA-built Art Deco Burnet County courthouse opened in 1937, and has been serving the citizens of this rural Central Texas county ever since.
Be sure and check out the pink granite panels next to the courthouse doors -- they are cool Art-Deco stylized representations of the history of this county.
