This organ was first built for the Collégiale Saint-Benoît-le-Bétourné and transported to Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas by Claude-Francois Clicquot in 1792. It contains parts of the original organ built by Jean Langhedul in 1587, thus it has the oldest still visible case-parts of all organs in Paris. In 1791, Alfred Kern rebuilt the organ in the French classical style.
A sign below the organ describes its history. It reads:

c'est l'un des plus beaux de France. Il
comporte 47 jeux sur 4 claviers/pédalier.
Le buffet est daté sur la boiserie (1609)
mais cettaines parties remontent à 1587.
