Stawnichy's Meat Processing was opened in Mundare in 1959 by Woytko Stawnichy in a small grocery store. A new processing plant was constructed in 1979 and an addition added in 1980. The plant was expanded again in 1983 and again in 1988, and yet again in 2000. Stawnichy's has twice been chosen as one of the top three businesses in Alberta by Alberta Economic Development and Trade in the Small Business category.

The replica kobasa was built in 2001 and stands 42 feet tall. Completion occurred on April 27, 2001 with the official dedication ceremony taking place on June 8, 2001. It's a somewhat weird looking sculpture, but definitely looks like a kobasa, no doubt about that. It's well worth stopping on the way by to see this "different" commemorative statue.

And, of course, if one is into Ukrainian style sausage (who isn't?), one could also stop at Mundare Sausage at 5212 50 Street while in town. They're not famous for their sausage by accident. Mundare is about 65 km. east of Edmonton on Highway 16 - The Yellowhead Highway.
