Visitors to the historic town of
Port Gamble are inundated with historical elements throughout the township. Almost every building in this town contains a historical marker that highlights the history of prior occupants. Each marker stands out nicely on painted burgundy boards and gold lettering. This historic former residence contains a marker on the front fence that reads:
1890 Clarence R. & Lulu (Hovey) Cranmer House Clarence was a past Master of the Franklin Lodge in 1896. Lulu died at the age of 32 on June 15, 1904 and is buried in the Port Gamble Cemetery. |
The NRHP nomination form mentions this House No. 8 as being a seven-room house built in 1890 for $1659.80 and rented out for $20.00 per month (to the unmarried mill workers).
This former residence is currently home to the Tea Room, a tea room, bistro, and candy shop.
