The scraper served many purposes around farms and ranches. It could be used for leveling out fields, building roads, digging canals, building small dams, or any other activity that required moving large amounts of dirt quickly and easily. The depth of cut could be controlled by the operator and, when the bucket was full and the dump site reached, the bucket was upended to deposit the earth that it contained.
