This piece of equipment could be used to harves any crop that grew below-ground. The front portion would undermine the crop and lift it, dirt and all, onto the conveyor belt made of of metal rods. The dirt would be shaken off and fall back to the field's surface and the crop would be placed on top of the dirt to be picked up. The conveyor was powered via the gears attached to the large rear wheels.
