The Fruit Stand is a whimsical tribute to Kelowna’s agricultural history. There are seven concrete and terrazzo fruit forms: apples, pears and peaches, some whole, others sliced. Under the fruit forms are five benches, accompanied by mosaics of vintage fruit box labels from the 1930s and 1940s. The Fruit Stand, by artists Glen Andersen & T.S. Thomas, was completed in 2002.

The two halves reveal an inner terrazzo face. The Apple Half and Peach Half sculptures offer an additional, botanically accurate detail of the fruits' seeds, core and leaves.

The halved fruit is an invitation; the pieces face each other as if in conversation revealing their exposed 'inner selves,' perhaps encouraging passers-by to linger and do the same.

The two large Apple and Peach Halves are made of cast cement which was then smoothed and polished to perfection. The large half fruit forms make playful reference to the oversized roadside “folk” art found across North America.
