This historic courthouse was added to the US National Register in 1989 for two famous murals painted inside in 1936 as part of the WPA Post office murals program.

Richard Haines painted the mural "Kansas Farming," while L. Ward Lockwood was responsible for "Pioneer in Kansas."

This courthouse is one of three that house the federal courts in Wichita. The US Bankruptcy court is housed here, as are the US Magistrate courts.
