OH-6A
The Hughes Aircraft OH-6A won the Army's Light Observation Helicopter competition in 1961 and went into production in 1965. 1,417 OH-6's were built before the OH-6A was superseded by the Bell )H-58A in 1968. The "Loach" earned a reputation of being a tough and reliable scout helicopter, able to sustain a great deal of battle damage, and very survivable in the event of a crash. This particular OH-6 did yeoman service in Vietnam and was flown by the Utah Army National Guard from 1976 until 1989. In combat, Vietnam Era "SIX'S" were armed with a 7.62 caliber minigun firing out of the left side of the aircraft. The observer was seated in the left front seat and manned a 7.62 M-60 machine gun in addition to other duties.
