A carved date stone indicates that the pub was rebuilt in 1895 and so it is assumed that a pub existed on this site before this one and probably with the same name.

As well as the swinging sign there is a relief carving above the door that shows the name of the pub and a king's head.

The swinging sign shows a king with crown and a sword and has the look of a king from a pack of cards. The name of the pub is below the image.
