"I have chosen to create a guardian angel for animals and people. It looks out over the area from its spot in a sort of sentry box on top of a column. The antique hero columns that I have met on my travels in Italy and the small pictures of saints that you see in niches in houses in Southern Europe have provided me with inspiration. I transfer the classical picture to modern materials such as steel, ventilation pipes and cement in a way that makes them merge naturally with the modern surroundings. I have dyed the cement so that the colour varies according to changes in the weather and creates a contrast to the red buildings." - Lars Zoega.

Research Center Foulum came to be in 1984. By stages the researchers in animal science and plant science moved in from various places in Denmark. The building work also took place in stages and, with that, the acquisition af art. The funds for buying art where avalible due to the fact that in public construction project in Denmark, one percent of the building cost must be allocated to the acquisition af art. The sculptor Erik Varming selected most of the artists who have created the large outdoor sculptures. Today Research Center Foulum is home to more than 50 impressive works of art indoors and outdoors.

There are working staff in all buildings on the site, which should be respected - traffic on the site must be on the trails and instructions from staff should be followed.
