This Colonial-style two-and-one-half story home was built in 1924 at the crest of Gaiety Hill. The house features a large bay entrance with a window balcony above. On the property is an unattached garage which is one of the oldest in Salem. An impressive brick and iron fence surrounds the property.

The house was built for Carl and Ethel Webb, later owned by and then owned by Dr. Julius and Ruth Garnjobst. Dr. Helen Pearce, for 35 years an English teacher at Willamette University, lived at this house for many years, until her death in 1978. Miss Pearce, who was also born in Salem, received her doctorate from the University of California-Berkeley in 1930 and was a scholar on Victorian poet Alfred Lord Tennyson. She was an authority on Salem and Oregon history, serving as co-editor on the first ten volumes of "Marion County History" for the historical society.

The house remains a private residence.
