This garish entrance Palais Royal/Musée du Louvre station of the Paris Metro serves the number 1 and 7 lines. The station entrance is reserved for persons already holding tickets for the metro.
In 2000, Jean-Michel Othoniel transformed the original design by Hector Guimard at the Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre Metro station into the Kiosque des Noctambules (Kiosk for Night Owls). An ornate aluminum fence guards the opening of the station. The fence is composed of conjoined rings some of which are decorated with glass beads. The spectacular canopy is pair of crowns made of glass beads and aluminum. An aluminium bench (for chance encounters) is located at the back of the fence below the canopy.
