Ryssby
Placed by State Historical Society, 1938
Text: "This tablet is the Property of the state of Colorado. First Swedish settlement in Colorado. Begun 1869-70. Homestead claims filed 1870. Swede ditch
constructed 1871. Log schoolhouse built 1875. Ryssby Church, religious and social center built 1881-82."
Marker is decently easy to get to. It is located on 63rd Street about a mile south of Nelson; the exact address is 9000 N 63rd St. The parking is gated and locked and only opened for special occasions, so you may have to contact people involved with the church to get prior clearance to park there. I pulled off the side of the road, but it was early in the morning and traffic was very light.
Group or Groups Responsible for Placement: State Historical Society of Colorado, Mrs. J.N. Hall Foundation, Descendants and Friends of original Swedish Settlers
County or City: Longmont, CO
Date Dedicated: 1938
