Dorris Shooting Club's Lone Chimney - Dorris, CA - Lonely Chimneys on Waymarking.com

I was waymarking a nearby benchmark and noticed this lone chimney standing out amongst some pieces of a concrete foundation and some junk lying around. I noticed an older gentleman doing some weeding at the nearby Dorris Community Center and approached him and inquired about the chimney. 'Rinny,' a lifelong Dorris resident, related that the chimney is all that remains of the former private shooting club building. It was built in the 1950s by a Dorris resident who donated the property and building to the local shooting club. In the early 1970s some teens burned it down and all that remained up until recently was the concrete foundation and this chimney. The foundation was torn out last year and plans are to erect another shooting club building near the chimney. The Community Center owns the property and haven't decided to either leave the chimney standing alone or work it into the new building. There is a shooting range just north of the chimney. Money is tight, so Rinny said the building is probably on hold for the indefinite future.
