Exedra Seating and Sunset Overlook:
"The marble Exedra was a gift to Edward Bok from friends in the neighboring Mountain Lake Community where he resided. This sunset view inspired Mr. Bok’s dream of the Gardens during his visits. At an elevation of 298 feet, this is one of the highest points in peninsular Florida.
Exedra, viewpont & resting place, is measured at 298 Feet by a geodesic marker and records this as the highest point measured in peninsular Florida, 298 feet above sea level (a previous estimate of 324 feet comes from the Plaque fitted on the Monument. (taken from an earlier incorrect survey)" Text Source: (

"The original Greek sense (???d?a, a seat out of doors) was applied to a room that opened onto a stoa, ringed with curved high-backed stone benches, a suitable place for a philosophical conversation. An exedra may also be expressed by a curved break in a colonnade, perhaps with a semicircular seat." Text Source: (
