"A party palace." This art deco private house was constructed in the mid-1950s, to an art deco plan originally decided upon in the 1930s. The reason for the two decade long delay was World War Two. The war itself, and the subsequent rationing and shortage of materials, greatly slowed construction. Indicative of the demands made—a key feature of the house—the large curved, front windows, could not be constructed in Australia, but had to be manufactured and shipped from the UK. The designers and occupiers were Keith and Mabel Perron, wealthy locals, who were intrigued and inspired by a Florida art deco house.
In the 50s and 60s "Blue Waters" was a residence with a wild reputation. Parties only whispered about in the more sedate areas of sedate Perth took place here (or were imagined to do so). Important local folk, visitors from distant shores, celebrities, and attractive women, all found themselves walking through its beckoning doors. Tour buses drove past offering those uninvited a meagre view of what they were missing.
In the present day the house has been restored, and is open to hire for those interested in experiencing what was once experienced.
426 Canning Hwy, Como WA 6152.
