This country store is slowly becoming a corner store as Mission's urban area expands further north. The question is will be able to survive that long.

When I was a kid some forty years ago my dad would pack us kids into the Pontiac Strato Chief and visit the relatives in the Fraser Valley. Between the 'aunt' on Dewdney Trunk Road west of Stave Falls Dam and the 'cousins' out in Hatzic lay this landmark to a young kid. We never stopped and went it, but I still recall seeing it from Dewdney Trunk Road.

As a young adult I would occasionally venture out to the Cedar Valley area and drive past it. This past week I arrived just before 1 PM to discovered it locked up. A few minutes later a young man drove with what must have been his grandmother. They had run down to the main part of Mission to grab something.

It's doubtful this store will last much longer as real estate values continue to increase with the encroaching urban area of Mission slowly moving northward. Nevertheless, it is still an iconic landmark in this area.

Update as of May 2015

A recent visit shows the store is empty at this point and all the signs have been removed. However, there is a contractors sign on the building. Will it be restored or torn down?

Type of store: Independent
