Ammidon Tavern is of major architectural significance as possibly Mendon*s oldest building, It is a rare surviving example pf a mid 18th C tavern, It has a distinctive long box gable block frame with a Colonial Revival porch extending the length of the facade.

The Ammidon Tavern is of major significance as a reminder of the importance of Mendon as a stopover between Providence, Worcester, Boston, Hartford, and points south during the 18th and 19th centuries, It has significant associations with Revolutionary War figures, Built ca.1745 on the site of an earlier tavern kept by John Thompson as early as 1674, its proprietors were Ichabod and Phillip Ammidon from 1745-1805, It provided shelter for 30 people made homeless by the burning of Charlestown during the Bunker Hill Battle of 1775, Nathan Hale stopped here on Jan,26, 1776, as did Washington in 1789 on his way to Hew Tork City from Boston.
