The John F. Moehl Stadium is part of the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT)
campus and was once home to the OIT football program home games until budget cuts shut down the program in the early 1990s. In OIT's last season of play, they finished fourth in the country in the NAIA Division.
Today, this stadium is a venue for the OIT track team, miscellaneous high school events and community events throughout the year. There hasn't been a football game played in this stadium in many years but many local folks still hold out hope that the once-proud football program will come back to life again.
The following text comes from the OIT PR Office in regards to the background of John F. Moehl:
Howard Morris was the Athletic Director at the time the stadium was constructed in 1978. At that time, the OIT Booster Club and Foundation were looking for a project to undertake that would better the university and they decided to begin work on fundraising for a football stadium, as football was currently being played at Modoc Field at KU. The current location of the football field was the location baseball was played at that time.
John F. Moehl was a member of those groups and the Foundation voted to name the stadium after him due to his heavy involvement with a large metal business in town, coordinating the donation of a large portion of materials to the stadium. This project could not have been possible without the hundreds of hours donated by many of those involved at the time.
