This Peace Garden was dedicated in 2002 after the students of Ackerman Middle School (AMS) as well as thier teachers, were able to accomplish the goal of obtaining a relic from the 9/11 World Trade Center diaster (and with the help of Congresswoman Darlene Hooley). In addition to an 18-inch piece of an I-beam from one of the towers, there is a time capsule that includes several newspapers from Sept. 12, 2001, peace videos, information about the Student Peace Advocates and the AMS peace prize, and a yearbook signed by all the students involved in the peace project.
The text on the plaque reads:
"Memorial to Peace
Dedicated to the Victims and Heroes
of September 11, 2001
The Time Capsule beneath this stone
was placed September 11, 2002
To be opened September 11, 2021"
