Although quite a small building it is of an elegant design with a particularly fine needle like spire.
At the time the church was built Newcastle was a busy port and very close to here many Danish trading ships used to dock. However in the 20th Century the port declined, fell into disuse and the area has since undergone extensive redevelopment, and this church building renovated and rescued.
The church was called the Sailor's Bethel, a Hebrew word meaning 'House of God'.
The church is flood lit at night with lights that change colour at regular intervals.
A plaque on the wall tells the history of the church.
