Although most of this large conservation area has been left in its natural wooded state with hiking trails, an area on the north end, at its entrance from Route 6A, has been cleared an maintained as a community garden for town residents. There are 70 plots here that can be used via a permit system.
To the rear (south) of the gardens are bins for compost and natural fertilizer, such as horse manure. This is near the trailhead for the hiking trails.
This is a less-known recreation area in the town of Dennis in the Mid-Cape Cod area,so popular with summer visitors. Access if from Route 6A (Main St.), but there is very little parking at the entrance, and all that is visible are the 70-plots of the community garden. There are no signs indicating that there are hiking trails.
Take the dirt road around either side of the perimeter of the gardens to the back where there is more parking and a single sign marks the trailhead. There are actually several miles of trails through the woods here, a quiet and peaceful place to enjoy with easy terrain.
