The Tellus Observatory is 20 foot in diameter facility, with a 20 inch Dall-Kirkham Cassegrain reflector telescope with 150x magnification. The farthest object we could see through the telescope is a Quasar called QC 237 which is over 12 billion light years from Earth
The observatory also houses a seismograph used to detect earthquakes all over the world. An image of the seismic waves from the March 11, 2011 earthquake in Japan captured here is on display.
The public is allowed access to the observatory during special events, such as lectures and Family Science Nights. See the web site for schedule of events.
