This building is located to the north of the CBC of Perth City, on a major intersection. The building is named the "Alexander Buildings". Its original purpose was most likely shops and accommodation. Today it still has shops on its ground floor. The building has been restored and is in excellent condition. Above the main entrance, vertically, is the year of dedication 1938, a year before World War Two.
According to "A Brief History of the Suburb" (Mt Lawley), this building was originally built by architect, Simon Alexander, in 1911, and was known as the "Broadway Building". Simon's son, John, put an Art Deco façade on the structure in 1938 and it now bears the name "Alexander Buildings".
There are several other art deco buildings near this intersection.
