The Colorado Midland Railroad constructed the stone fourteen-stall roundhouse in 1889 for the maintenance of its steam locomotives. The facility served the railroad until the abandonment of the successor Midland Terminal line in 1949. Listed under Railroads in Colorado, 1858-1948 Multiple Property Submission.
The roundhouse was converted into Van Briggle Art Pottery in 1955. As of late 2008 it began new construction to turn it into shops and offices.
