The bust in bronze in front of Helligåndshuset, Erik Menveds Plads in Randers. The sculpture is made by Th. Stein and it is dated June 5th 1891. Blicher was a student in the city's grammar school, which was located in Helligåndshuset, 1796-99 and he was later appointed assistant professor here. Many of Blichers work was also originally printed or published by the publisher Elmenhoff in Randers.

Steen Steensen Blicher was born in his father's vicarage in Vium. He graduated from the Theological Seminary in 1809. Blicher worked as pastor in Thorning and Spentrup, but is best known for his poems, short stories and translations of internationally known works.

Blichers early writings were inspired by the Scottish poetry collection Ossian which he translated into Danish during his studies. Inspired by his surroundings and his life, he, over time, developed a more personal lyrical style. In the 1820s he wrote some of his main stories, which since have been recognized as some of Danish literature greatest works. Among his novels Brudstykker af en Landsbydegns Dagbog (The Diary of a Parish Clerk), Sildig Opvaagnen (Tardy Awakening), Hosekræmmeren (The Hosier and his Daughter) and Præsten i Vejlbye (The Parson of Veilbye) are often mentioned. The Parson of Veilbye is considered Denmarks first known crime novel

In 2006, Blicher became part of the Danish cultural canon. The reason given was that "his style spreads lights of elegiac pain and eerily tense drama, and the story is hard to shake off" and about his importance as a writer was said that "Blicher is not only the first of Danish literatures great storytellers, he is also one of the few tragic poets in Danish literature ever."
