This beam was placed along Crowchild Trail in clear site of all who pass by the museum and there is easy access as it is near the entrance to the Museum.

This substantial artefact of the World Trade Center was placed here on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. It is described on the Military Museum's website as:
"The 1,277 kilogram piece of exterior wall steel, gifted to TMM by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey...".

The English text of the plaque in front of the beam is as follows:

World Trade Center Artefact

On September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jets. Tow of the planes were crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third was crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and the fourth crashed in rural Pennsylvania after passengers struggled to retake control. There were no survivors from the flights and with the collapse of the Twin Towers, less than two hours after impact, nearly 3,000 innocent people from more than 70 countries perished.

This steel artefact was recovered from the World Trade Center. It was shaped by the cataclysmic events that engage the United States of America in their Overseas Contingency Operations. Canada was immediately and directly engaged in the struggle, through the continental air defence of North America and the dispatch of sea, land and air forces to the South West Asia theatre of operations, covering military operations in the Arabian Sea and Afghanistan.

With the support of the September 11th Families’ Association, this artefact was graciously presented by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to the Military Museums to recognize and honour those who perished on September 11, 2001.
