The memorial is in the middle of an island as you enter Clayton's downtown. The stone pieces make a triangle, with a flagpole in the middle. On side has an inscription, while the other side has a plaque. The third side is blank.

"In memory of those who served our country and gave their lives, that we may live free. Citizens and businesses of Clayton Valley. Lt Jerry Noakovich Post 1525. Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The willingness to sacrifice is the prelude to freedom.This plaque honors all Clayton citizens who have served and are serving in our military. We will never forget those from Clayton who have given their lives for our freedom: World War I - Albert J Morgan and Hnery C Duncan. The Korean War - Tony Ghiozzi. The Vietnam War - Jerry A Novakovich,Ronnie C Pimental and Paul T Coe. Dedicated by the Lt. Jerry Novakovich Post 1525, VFW with the generous support of the citizens of Clayton and the Clayton Business and community association. Memorial, Day 2012."
