This old Fordson F tractor has been placed just to the east of the children's play park in the Queen Elizabeth Park in the north-east section of Masterton.

'The first Fordson Model F was completed in 1916 and was the first small, lightweight, mass-produced, affordable tractor in the world, making it possible for the average farmer to own a tractor for the first time.' from Wikipedia, see (visit link)

This one's got the metal wheels used for very rough ground, and the radiator opening blocked off. Looks good in its recent coat of Ford Blue paint. These tractors were renown for rearing over backwards and killing the driver if an attached plough snagged a tree root or rock, the next model the Fordson N had a heavier front axle and cast iron front wheels to help remedy the fault.

One of the pictures in the gallery is what the tractor would have looked like. The picture is from Flickr, Branxholm's photostream, reproduced here with the permission of the owner.
