Norwich City - War Memorial has been moved twice. First in 1938 from in front of the medieval Guildhall, to the City memorial gardens. Then more recently (2011) it was moved a few yards, and turned around to face the City Hall. The google map, still shows it in the Memorial Gardens, but with construction materials in its new position.
"The war memorial, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, had been relocated to the memorial gardens from the lower end of the Guildhall, where it was originally unveiled in 1928. Since then, the memorial had faced the marketplace. As part of the project and in accordance with the long-held wishes of veterans, the war memorial was turned to face City Hall and St Peters Street and new ramps were put in to allow disabled access.
The war memorial itself, crafted from Portland stone, is classical in style. The sarcophagus has gilded flambeaux at each end and elaborate gilded fixtures where standards can be placed at ceremonial occasions; the city coat of arms is centrally placed, supported by guardian angels.
Behind the war memorial is ‘Breath’, a sculpture created in bronze by Paul de Monchaux, which was commissioned by Norwich City Council in response to requests from English Heritage and local interest groups."
