Most travelers in West stop at the bakeries along the Interstate, where kolaches are king, and that is the extent of their town visit. West kolaches are legendary, but there are plenty of places here that should be visited: This is one of them.
While there are plenty of American-style entrees -- see the gallery for menu shots -- that would brand the restaurant as serving down home cookin', the specialty is Czech food, including sausage and kraut, stuffed cabbage rolls, roast pork, ham steak, and chicken and dumplins. The entrees are your usual Southern comfort food, as well as steaks and seafood. They have a salad bar that will accompany most meals, and there is a certain feel of eating in someone's kitchen here.
They have a small children's menu, which includes sausage and kraut. If the kids are freaked out by that, they can get "kid stuff," and they'll learn to appreciate the sausage and kraut later in life.
Soft drinks are available, including RC Cola, as well as tea, coffee, milk, hot chocolate, and lemonade. There is a small selection of draft and bottled beer -- a few Czech brands, of course -- as well as wine and margaritas. For dessert, they have pie, strudel, ice cream, and cobbler.
Change doesn't happen here much, and that's a good thing. Plenty of folks mention in online reviews that they can come back, year after year, and be certain that they're going to get the same dish they got on their last visit. Even the salad bar looks the same as it ever was.
