The rail tracks are elevated at this position to carry the tracks, at the correct level, to and from the River Medway rail bridge. Between this bridge and the river bridge the railway runs along a viaduct constructed of brick built arches. There are four tracks crossing the bridge but they become two just to the east of the bridge for the river crossing.

The bridge has a minimum height clearance of 15ft 03in over Canal Road that has vehicular traffic running along it as well as a footpath on each side of the road.

The photographs were taken at a point just to the south west of the bridge where there is a wide, open pavement. The footpaths allow the bridge to be viewed and photographed from a number of angles.
Bridge Type: Girder
