The Bull & Crown opened in February 2013 in what was formerly a wine and souvenir shop. The pub sign features a Bull that appears angry and ready to charge.
The following information is from the Colonial Quarter of St. Augustine website:
"TASTE LIFE... IN THE 18TH CENTURY
Venture off St. George Street and into an 18th century-styled British pub featuring authentic fare and local favorites in a centuries-old ambiance in the heart of downtown St. Augustine. Or dine street level right on St. George Street. Don't be surprised to be visited by notorious British citizens like the garrulous Governor Patrick Tonyn.
PUB LIFE
St. Augustine has a long history of taverns and pubs in the city. English Public Houses like the Bull & Crown were established so that rural townships could hold meetings, legal proceedings, and other community affairs. Taverns and inns were often used this way, too. This is how taverns became known as Public Houses or “Pubs”.
The Bull & Crown is built on the original site of skilled Minorcan carpenter Francisco Pellicer's home, reconstructed in 1977 to honor St. Augustine's Minorcan community."
