Found in the grounds of the Kew Botanic Gardens, watching over the Palm House and lake. Well worth a visit (charges below).
The plaque reads:
CHINESE GUARDIAN LIONS
This pair of guardian lions were presented by Sir John Ramsden in 1958. They are superb example of Chinese sculpture and are similar to those made of bronze, which stand in the grounds of the Imperial Palace at Peking.
These lions weigh about 10 tons each and were probably made in the 18th century, although they may possibly date from the Ming period (1368-1644).
Admission is required - £14.50 for Adults – Free for Accompanied Children - £14 Concessions.
