The Eternal Flame at the Kings Park War Memorial in Perth was lit in 2000 from a flame taken from the Australian War Memorial, thus providing a symbolic link to the place where the names of all Australia's war dead are recorded.
The flame is set within a circular pool raised above the surrounding courtyard, and bears the inscription:
LET SILENT CONTEMPLATION BE YOUR OFFERING
The flame was lit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 1 April 2000. Queen Elizabeth II placed a wreath at the State War Memorial on 27th March 1954 on the occasion of the Dedication of additions to the memorial. This was less than 10 months after Her Coronation as Queen, which took place in Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953.
