This memorial to the firefighters lost when the Twin Towers fell in New York is located at the Pete Shelton Plaza in downtown Beaumont. Excerpted from the city of Beaumont web site: The Black & Silver Memorial Hydrant serves as a reminder and memorial of the dedicated first responders who gave their life in New York City on September 11, 2001. 343 Firefighters and paramedics were killed, 23 New York Police Department officers and 37 Port Authority police officers lost their life in the terrorist attack trying to save others.
The plaque reads: In memory of the 343 New York City fire fighters who gave their lives in service on September 11, 2001.
