"Cano" Espinoza began this project in 1981. Using old beer cans, hubcaps and other pieces of junk, Cano constructed a multi-story castle with a message. He calls it "Jesus' Castle" and started the project as a hobby after seeing an increase in drug and alcohol use in the area. Still a work-in-progress, Cano is continually adding to the structure which features two large towers and a three story "house" containing over a million cans, tires and hubcaps.
The castle is not occupied. Rather it is dedicated to God and preaches the evils of alcohol and tobacco. Cano himself resides nearby in a small shack living mostly off the land. He leads a very private life and rarely speaks to strangers but welcomes visitors to come see his creation.
