On Ostwestfalenplatz square in Bielefeld, trees for each of Bielefeld's seven sister cities have been planted. Trees were chosen to be typical for the corresponding countries, and this is the tree for Concarneau, France. It is a sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa). The twinning of Bielefeld and Concarneau was established in 1969.
