In the early 1900s there was a lot of contention between Park City and Coalville over the location of the colunty seat. Park City thought that it should be the county seat because it was the commercial and mining center of the county. Coalville maintained that it sholuld remain the county seat because is supplied Park City with all the necessary foodstuffs for its existence. The county seat has remained in Coalville to the present.
When Summit County celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2004, Park City donated and exhibit honoring the occasion consisting of a silhouette sculpture of a miner and a mine car loaded with ore that bears the plaque for the occasion. The plaque reads:
Park City Honors Summit County
on the occasion of its
Sesquicentennial Anniversary
January 2004
For over 130 years Park City has proudly shared its past
and present with Summit County. We look forward to a common future filled with peace and prosperity.
