On a guided tour you can see the rocks, miner's snot and chambers. Various depictions can be seen on the rockface and mineral deposits shine in the torchlight. An interesting presentation is given by a model of a miner who describes real life in the cave with his son. Men married often in their lifetime as their wives often died of lead poisoning at a young age.

The caverns are natural and were mined for their Fluorspar deposits and lead. Miners followed the veins into the caves. Nowadays very little minerals remain but the caverns are impressive and well cared for to allow future generations to view their secrets.

The soot marks from candles, pick marks from tools and narrow shafts show how miners once worked in these caverns. We enjoyed an informative tour round. More information can be seen here visit link and an 1836 historic account of a visit can be read here visit link
