Late Baroque and Rococo Church of St. Catherine (Šv. Kotrynos bažnycia), built between 1625-1743, is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastic buildings in Lithuania' capital Vilnius.
Church of St. Catherine is one of the pricipal "pieces" of Vilnius` Baroque "collection". It is famous not only for its Baroque and Rococo architecture, but also for amazing inside acoustics and brilliant music performances that here are often held. Church of St. Catherine is a stone two-tower, single-nave late Baroque structure with rich rococo decorations. The church is the key element of the Benedictine monastery complex here located.
The church was heavily damaged during WW II and in Soviet era it serves as storage space for vilnius Museum. In 1994 restoration works of the church began and it was opened for public only in 2006. Church of St. Catherine is more known as a place where cultural performances are held rather than a place where confessions take place (but here also are regular Catholic services held).
