This Queen Anne house was built in 1887 for George Collins and was originally located at 197 Court Street (the northwest corner of Court and Church streets, now the site of the ill-fated Courthouse Transit Center.) A few years after construction, the house was purchased from Collins by William H. Byrd. Dr. Byrd earned his medical degree at Willamette University in 1881 and practiced in Salem for nearly 50 years. Byrd purchased this lot in 1905 and had the house moved here in 1906.
