The Bedford Springs Hotel Historic District consists of the Bedford Springs Hotel, a mineral springs resort built and established in 1806, and associated buildings, structures and recreational facilities sited on 300 acres.
Additional structures/buildings were built between the years of 1824 through 1925.
The original attraction of the Bedford Springs Hotel was of course the mineral springs.
Bedford Springs was an important political gathering place during this era. Five US Presidents, William Henry Harrison (1841), John Tyler (1841-1845), James K. Polk (1845-1849), Zachary Taylor (1849-1850), and James Buchanan (1857-1861), vacationed at this resort.
This resort has been closed/vacant for many years, but is being restored, and to be opened as a resort again in the summer of 2007.
