Cast in 1899 by the MC Shane Bell Foundry in Baltimore, Maryland, this is the original bell from the first Greenwood Fire Department.
The original fire hall was built in 1898 on Long street. This bell sat atop the fire hall and was part of an elaborate city wide alarm system.
That fire hall has since burned down, and when the fire department relocated, the bell did not go with it. It eventually became a treasured display in front of Greenwood's historic City Hall, which, incidentally, lies across the street from the present fire hall.
