Little is known about Nicholas Johnston.

At the age of about 13, Nicholas Johnston was conscripted to be a British soldier in the Revolutionary War. He deserted the British army in 1778, floated down the Hudson River in winter to join the American Army as a soldier. After the war, the Reverend Nicholas Johnston migrated west and bought two lots in Cincinnati in 1789, when it was still called Losantiville.
