In Speyer gibt es bereits seit 1860 das erste städtische Gaswerk. An diesem Standort eröffnete das zweite städtische Gaswerk im Jahr 1904. Bis zur Umstellung auf Ferngas 1964 war hier die zentrale städtische Gasversorgung untergebracht. Heute sind nur einige Bereiche der Gaswerke noch in Betrieb, hier befindet sich auch der moderne Kugelbehälter.

Gas has been used in Speyer for a very long time. The first municipal gas works opened in 1860. The second location at coordinated opened in 1904 and was the main gas station until 1964. Then the city switched to long-dinstance heating. Parts of the factory are still in use, the modern gasbell is also located there.
