Nejstarší informace o tomto mestišti hovorí o trech gotických domech, které pred rokem 1541 spojili Šternberkové v jeden objekt. Z nejstarší stavební fáze se dochovaly pravdepodobne pouze sklepní prostory pod jižním dvorním krídlem. V roce 1541 objekt znicil požár. Stavba byla obnovena a radikálne renesancne prestavena v letech 1587 a 1594. Za Rudolfa II. sloužil palác k ubytování císarských pážat. V roce 1607 palác znovu vyhorel, beze zmen pudorysu byl opraven. V roce 1666 jej prestavel Carlo Lurago. Po barokní prestavbe byl palác užíván pro sociální bydlení, poté jako opatrovna a od roku 1932 materská škola. Od sedmdesátých let 20. století zde sídlil Útvar hlavního architekta mesta Prahy.

The building was restored and rebuilt in the Renaissance style radically between 1587 and 1594. In time of Rudolf II. served to house pageboys.
