According to the Atlanta parking system informational web page, there are about 200 solar powered pay stations where one pays for parking by entering the number on the parking space where your vehicle is parked. They accept currency or credit and debit cards. This particular unit is located in front of the Atlanta City Hall, on Mitchell Street, near the intersection with Washington Street. This particular station is one of two I noted in front of City Hall.

The following information comes from the FAQ section of the web page cited below.

Parking Pay Stations

Parking in Atlanta just got easier. PARKatlanta has installed approximately 200 new solar-powered pay-by-space parking pay stations throughout the City. New pay stations accept coins, bills, and credit and debit cards. The minimum payment amount for credit card users is $1. When parking, please locate your space number, identify the nearest pay station, enter your space number and select your payment option according to the directions at the pay station.

What is a Parking Pay Station?

Pay stations replace traditional single space parking meters. One pay station is typically installed for approximately every 10 parking spaces instead of at every space.

Why is the City Installing New Parking Pay Stations?

Convenience.
The new pay stations will make parking in Atlanta more convenient. Instead of accepting only coins like traditional parking meters, the pay stations accept coins, bills, and credit cards. Now you don't have to worry about having enough change to park!

Environmentally Friendly.
The pay stations run on a battery that is charged by solar power.
Type of system: Photovoltaic (electrical)
